Dr Vanessa Petroni Magri from the Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, recently visited the Ispra site of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC) which employs scientists to carry out research in order to provide independent scientific advice and support to EU policy.
This visit was organised by the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST), for the five winners of the JRC Malta Young Scientist Award, in which Dr Petroni Magri was ranked first in the Health and Society Sector. During their visit, the Maltese scientists had the opportunity to present their work to an international forum, and shadow established JRC researchers in the laboratories. There were also specific networking sessions aimed to foster international collaborations. The team was led by Dr Melchior Cini from the MCST.
Dr Petroni Magri graduated with a Ph.D. from the University of Malta in November 2016. Her work focussed on novel therapeutic approaches in breast cancer, and her project was jointly supervised by Prof. Godfrey Grech, Dr Anthony Fenech and Prof. Marie Therese Camilleri Podestà.
