Dr Philip Ciantar and Dr John Galea, resident academics at the Department of Music Studies, School of Performing Arts, have just returned from a visit to the Arts College of Xiamen University, China, where they delivered various lectures and conducted workshops to undergraduate and postgraduate music students during the 2nd International Chamber Music Festival that was taking place between 19 June and 16 July 2017. The two academics were hosted by Professor Su Li, Dean of the Arts College of Xiamen University, Vice-Dean Chen Shuhua, and other music professors, including, Professor Zhen Shenglong, Professor Zhao Liang and Assistant Professors Lvyin Yang and Li Guochao.
During their ten-day stay in Xiamen, both Dr Galea and Dr Ciantar had fruitful meetings with academic staff members of the Arts College as well as with various international professors present at the festival, namely, Prof. Fumiaki Kono from the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts, Dr Tsung-Te Tsai,, Professor of Graduate Institute of Ethnomusicology in Taian, Taiwan, Prof. Petras Geniusas and Prof. Li Bing Bing from the Glasgow Conservatoire of Music, Scotland.
CDs featuring Maltese music and music scores by Dr Galea and Dr Ciantar were presented to the University's Music Library.
