Prof. Jean Calleja-Agius, Head of Department of Anatomy within the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, has recently delivered a week-long intensive programme on emergency skills and drills in obstetrics to the healthcare professionals at Cardinal Rugambwa Hospital (CRH) in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
Prof. Calleja-Agius was accompanied by other Maltese volunteers from the FACES Charity Organisation, who have been supporting this hospital since 2011. CRH is a small district general hospital in the suburb of Ukonga run by the Sisters of St Theresa of Lisieux.
This capacity-building exercise will permit CRH to maintain its accreditation within the Tanzanian health care system, thus keeping its doors open to care for the needs of the neighbouring communities.
