Blood transfusions are a lifeline for thousands of patients recovering every year in all the hospitals in Malta and Gozo. The normal daily need of blood is an average of 50 blood bags daily, collected on a voluntarily and non-remunerated basis from altruistic persons.
Following the successful blood donation drive held at the University Msida Campus on 15 and 16 March, in which there were 60 successful donations from 100 interested donors, the organising team would like to assess whether there is enough demand for another session to be held in April. This would be the last one before exam time and the summer holidays. If you are healthy and you have not donated blood in March, the organising team encourages you to join in and give the gift of life on Friday 28 April at University of Malta (Faculty of ICT Premises).
Interested donors are encouraged to check out whether they are eligible or otherwise to donate blood by accessing the Questionnaire for Blood Donors [PDF] (National Blood Transfusion Service). Male donors are reminded that they can donate blood three months after their last donation. Female donors are reminded that they can donate blood four months after their last donation.
If you are eligible, register your interest and availability via the online questionnaire.
For any queries and clarifications related to blood donation one may log on www.blood.gov.mt, leave a private message on www.facebook.com/bloodmalta or write an email to customercare.nbts@gov.mt.
