Commonwealth Scholarships 2008 - 2009 (United Kingdom) (closing date: 28th September 2007)
Under the Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan, the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom is inviting us to nominate a number of Maltese candidates who are interested to pursue either (a) one year master’s degree or (b) three year doctoral degree during the academic year commencing in October 2007. In respect of these scholarship awards, the United Kingdom Scholarship Commission has emphasised the following factors:
1. Candidates reading for a first degree are expected to hold by October 2008, a first degree of at least upper second class honours level or a degree of second class and a relevant postgraduate degree.
2. Awards are tenable at any UK institution of higher education. Candidates are expected to state their preferred institution on the application form, but the final decision on host institution will be made by the Commission. In recent years, placement of successful candidates has sometimes been delayed by the process of gaining admission to their host university. For this reason, we strongly advise candidates to submit independent applications directly to their preferred institutions. Where offers of admission have been obtained, these should be included with the application.
3. Each applicant must submit 7 (1 original and 6 copies) complete applications, accompanied by:
a. seven copies (1 original and 6 copies) of the academic records (transcript). It is very important for the academic records to list the subjects passed and the grades of pass in each subject. Academic records excluding such information cannot be assessed by the Board.
b. only one copy of a certified birth certificate attached to the first (original) application.
4. Any application submitted without the complete documentation will not be eligible for consideration.
5. There is no upper age limit for nominations for United Kingdom awards.
6. Applications for undergraduate and post-doctoral awards will not be eligible for consideration.
7. All awards must be tenable on a full-time basis.
Further details about these scholarships are obtainable from the Customer Care Unit, Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment, Floriana.
Applications should be submitted on the appropriate forms, which can be obtained from the Customer Care Unit, Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment, Floriana or from the Education Office, Victoria, Gozo. These applications should reach The Customer Care Unit, Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment, Floriana by not later than Friday 28th September 2007.
Applications will not be considered unless three (3) letters of appraisal on the official form are received by the Board. It is desirable that appraisers should be persons under whom the candidate has studied or worked. It is a must that you inform the appraisers that they are to send the appraisal forms directly to The Secretary, Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Board, Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment, Floriana, Malta, in the enclosed envelopes. Otherwise appraisals will not be considered. When candidates are selected as nominees they will be requested to obtain from each of their appraisers a Reference Letter (besides the letters of appraisals as submitted with the original application).
Government and Parastatal employees should consult relevant Public Service regulations before applying for these scholarships.
Late applications will not be considered.
