Biography

“Rebecca Hall ….flits above and around the striding orchestra like Tinker Bell chatting with Peter Pan.” (American Record Reviews)

“Rebecca Hall lends the work a fragile humanity as well as winged fantasy.” (Musicweb international)

Maltese - Canadian flutist Rebecca Hall has been at the forefront of music in Malta since moving to the island in 1996. Previously, Ms. Hall was five time finalist of the CIBC National Music Festival (Woodwind) and a finalist of the Laurence Beauregard International Flute Competition. She recorded frequently for CBC radioDr-Rebecca-Hall and television.
Ms. Hall’s performances in Malta have been dramatic and varied, from her more than fifteen years as Principal Flute of the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra to her chamber music recitals with the Issa Ensemble and the Cosmos Wind Quintet. Her orchestral playing has been described as “beautiful, sensuous, sensitive and poetic...”. She has appeared as concerto soloist with the Malta Philharmonic in 1999 (John Galea “Variations”), 2009 (J. S. Bach Brandenburg Concerto 5) and 2010 (Carl Nielsen Flute Concerto), the Suite in B Minor (Bach) and the Rodrigo Fantasia para un gentilhombre (2011) as well as the Triple Concerto of J.S. Bach (2012). She has recently recorded two premieres of Serenades by Jadassohn and Kelly with the MPO under the direction of Michael Laus for the label Cameo Classics.

A champion of Maltese and Canadian compositions, she has premiered works by Ruben Zahra, Charles Camilleri, Albert Garzia and Joseph Vella (Malta). Rebecca Hall is a muse of the celebrated Canadian composer Jack Behrens, whose works for flute were the subject of her Doctorate of Music thesis.
In addition to her busy performance schedule, Dr. Hall lectures in flute and baroque music for the University of Malta.
