Study-Unit Description

CODE DCS5005

TITLE Dance Collaboration and Devising

UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

MQF LEVEL Not Applicable

ECTS CREDITS 5

DEPARTMENT Dance Studies

DESCRIPTION This study-unit investigates further approaches to choreography through an exploration of intent, content and context for dance expression. We examine how appropriate choreographic concepts, strategies and devices are used in a range of technical and applied contexts, artistic, educational or interventionist.

In developing understanding of praxis of improvisation, imagery and devising approaches we also focus on the relationship of the ensemble and the ability of groups to work collectively, even democratically. Awareness through observation and analysis, social-interactive and communication skills, and the functions of leadership are explored in the contexts of dance, movement and physical theatre.

The study-unit will also investigate forms of interdisciplinary collaboration: fusion, interdependency and independence.

The assessment for this study-unit will be one of collective or collaborative group, and can be applied in the theatre, site-specific, educational, interventionist or community context.

Study-unit Aims

- to examine questions of interactivity, transmission and significance in performance and performance-related activity
