Dr Mario Frendo 
      
Mario Frendo is lecturer of Theatre Studies. He joined the University of Malta in 2007 and served as Head of Department between 2008 and 2013. He received his PhD from the University of Sussex, UK, with a thesis entitled Musicality and the Act of Theatre: Developing Musicalised Dramaturgies for Theatre Performance, and holds a master’s degree in music composition from the University of Malta. Frendo co-founded the Malta Arts Festival in 2006 and remained its artistic director until 2013. As member of TARF (Malta) he is co-founder of Icarus Publishing with Odin Teatret (Denmark) and the Grotowski Institute (Poland). His current research interests include musicality in theatre, interdisciplinarity in performance, and the relationships between performance and philosophical discourse.
