STS/Bunkering (LNG) Superintendent Temporary Placement/s

Placement Type: Paid Internship (400-500hrs)

Placement Description:

The chosen candidate/s will be working under the guidance of a team lead by the Deputy Harbour Master at the Ports and Directorate office at the Marsaxlokk port. The main duties of a STS/Bunkering (LNG) Superintendent are continuously monitor of bunkering and STS Operations including the carrying out of inspections and audits, a number of which will take place AOH/weekends in line with operational trends; To develop and maintain a dedicated Code of Practice for Bunkering and STS Operations which will compliment the Code of Practice for commercial vessels; To ensure that bunker barges and tankers operating within the jurisdiction of the Authority are in a seaworthy condition and in full compliance with Class and Statutory regulations; To ensure that crew and personnel operating on domestic bunker barges and tankers are duly certified and have the required competencies and authorizations; To review and to ensure that Safe Manning Certificates issued by the Authority relating to domestic bunker barges and tankers reflect the actual operation of the respective vessels to ensure safe operations. The candidate may consider this post as an opportunity to experience at first hand the duties of a STS/Bunkering (LNG) Superintendent with TM. This placement is not considered as a formal employment but any experience gained will be given due merit should there be a call for a more permanent position within TM.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate/s should come from a science background. Preference will be given to students of the Faculty of Science and/or Sustainable Environment, preferably with a strong chemistry background. Given the nature of the work, the candidates are expected to have a minimum of Grade 5 in Maltese at SEC level or equivalent.

Other Qualities:

Good interpersonal and communication skills. Willing to learn. Be able to work on her/his own steam both in an office environment and port environment. Be scientifically literate.
