Bank of Valletta supports medical research in the Faculty of Medicine & Surgery At a recent presentation ceremony, Mr Joe Formosa, representing the Bank of Valletta, gave a cheque for Lm4200 to Mr. Henry Naudi, Assistant Director of Finance, who accepted it on behalf of the University of Malta.  The funds are being passed to the Cancer Research Fund of the University's Department of Anatomy.  Professor Camilleri Podestà thanked Mr Joe Formosa and said that the money would be used primarily to employ a person at research assistant level to help with the departmental research. The research is focussed on studying the effects of natural products and their components on human cancer cell lines with the aim of possibly identifying new anti-cancer substances.

Mr Formosa explained that part of the mission of BOV was to be of excellent service to the community that the Bank serves.  He said that clearly the community is made up of human beings with various needs, the most important being good health and general well being and that it was only natural that, when approached by Professor Marie Therese Camilleri Podestà to assist in the Research for Cancer Fund of the University of Malta, Bank of Valletta was honoured do so. For BOV this was a great opportunity to assist in providing for a better quality of life and to offer service from the heart to society in general.

This was also an opportunity for the BOV Homelink team to work closer together with various customers and other market players such as estate agents, architects, lawyers, property developers with the noble idea of being of service.  He said that the Bank of Valletta also wanted to raise awareness of the good work being carried out by the University of Malta in health research.

Mr Formosa said that Art was introduced into the team and he mentioned the good contribution of the artist Mr Marco Cremona in preparing a set of four prints which were given to the contributors as a token of gratitude.

Finally, Mr Formosa said that he wished that others would emulate Bank of Valletta in such initiatives and that Bank of Valletta would like to be offered further opportunities to participate in noble initiatives by the University of Malta.
