Theatre Traffic jams at Teatru Manoel

There are many young people who are keen on theatre and the arts but there is hardly anywhere to meet, discuss and enjoy a sharing experience. The students of the Theatre Studies programme of the University of Malta have decided to fill this void by getting people to meet at Café Diva, Teatru Manoel.

The Theatre studies programme in collaboration with Teatru Manoel is launching Theatre Traffic on Wednesday 16th October at 7:30 p.m. The evening, "a taste of ..." will provide a taste of all the activities that Theatre Traffic intends to promote. On this evening we will encounter Joe Friggieri and his performers in Trappisti, Aleateia, Gruppi ghall-inkontru tal-Bniedem, Francesca Abela Tranter, and much more! A photographic exhibition of theatre companies and productions will be launched.

Theatre Traffic is the umbrella name given to a series of events such as video seminars, jam sessions, exhibitions, encounters and other related events. The aim behind this initiative is to attract young people (and not so young) from all walks of life with a passion for the theatre and the arts to meet, exchange and be together. The setting for all encounters is an informal one and all activities are free of charge.

Videos on performance and acting will be shown and discussed every third Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m.. Current performances showing in Maltese theatres will also be presented and short excerpts from plays will be acted out. The video seminars will be held on the following dates: November 20th, December 18th, January 15th, February 19th, March 19th, April 16th.

Since music is an intrinsic part of theatre, young musicians who are keen to try out their talents will be encouraged to do so during jam sessions which will take place one Sunday a month at 8:00p.m., the dates of which are as follows: November 10th, December 8th. January 19th, February 28th  (Friday), March 9th, April 13th, May 9th (Friday).

Theatre Traffic is also planning to hold a series of one-off events ranging from open days at the Manoel to open mike sessions. Anybody wishing to perform music, to talk about their plays or theatre work or to propose any other initiatives can contact Theatre Traffic at vicki.cremona@um.edu.mt or phone 32902988.
