INDUSTRIAL VISITS FOR UNIVERSITY COMMERCE MANAGEMENT STUDENTS
An important issue for management students of the Bachelor in Commerce (Honours)
degree course at the University of Malta who are nearing the completion of
their tertiary level studies, is the practical introduction to operational
work within the respective public and private enterprises that constitute
Maltese Industry. To this effect, during the month of November, the Department
of Management organised a series of three visits to industrial sites of interest,
specifically to a parastatal company, a brewery, and a major hotel, namely
the Water Services Corporation, Farsons and the Intercontinental Hotel respectively.
These well-attended full-morning visits provided students with the opportunity
to become acquainted with both front-end and behind-the-scenes operational
activities, through the guided touring of premises and plant, as well as
discussions with and verbal presentations by senior organisation officials.
The Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, Professor
Daniel Darmanin, Management Department Head Mr. Carmel Fsadni and Visits
Coordinator, Lecturer Philip Schembri have all expressed their satisfaction
regarding the level of cooperation achieved with both public and commercial
work organisations. The successful recent student visits as well as those
organised in previous years, are the result of the synergy that has been
fostered between the University and public and private enterprise and it
is hoped that the scope of such cooperation will be extended in the future.
