Seminar on Persons with Disability in the Workplace
The Foundation for Human Resources Development (FHRD), the Malta Employers’ Association (MEA) and the Workers’ Participation Development Centre of the University of Malta (WPDC) are jointly organizing a breakfast seminar on Persons with Disability in the Workplace.

The event which is being kindly supported by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) is being held on Monday 20th October from 8:30 to 11:00 am at the St. George’s Suite, The Crowne Plaza, Tigne’ Sliema.

The seminar will discuss the issue of Persons with Disability in the Workplace – a topical subject in a year (2003) earmarked as the European Year of Persons with Disability. What is the rationale behind the employment of persons with disability from the point of view of employers? What are roles and responsibilities of employers and employees as regards this issue? Is there an equal opportunities policy to ensure the inclusion of persons with disability in the economic sector? Are the principles of equal opportunities employment being put into practice at the workplace? What type of environment is needed in order to ensure that persons with disability can maximize their individual potential and make a valid contribution to the work organisation where they are employed? What type of training programmes are required that would equip persons with disability with the necessary skills and competences which are in demand in today’s labour market? What role can the state, apart from legislation, the trade union and the Employment Training Corporation play to eliminate all social and psychological barriers that may impede persons with disability to participate in the labour market?  These are some of the questions which will be addressed during this seminar.

Dr Karl Chircop Malta Labour Party spokesperson on Social Policy, together with the Hon. Dolores Cristina Parliamentary Secretary within the Ministry for Social Policy will deliver a concluding address.
