Annual Management Accounting Seminar
On Friday, 6th February 2004, a one-day seminar was organised by 4th
year students who are reading for the Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours)
degree in the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy.
This was held at the Howard Johnson Diplomat Hotel, Sliema. The theme of
this seminar was "Management Accounting Practices in the New Millennium:
An overview of the scenario/s unfolding
in our island home." After having conducted a detailed analysis of
the Management accounting practices used within a number of local firms,
chosen from various sectors of the economy, the students presented their
findings to the audience. The presentations focused mainly on a description
and evaluation of the traditional and contemporary Management Accounting
techniques used by local concerns to gather the quantitative and qualitative
information required to aid management in areas of decision-making, planning
and control. The Dean, Professor Daniel Darmanin, the academic staff, the
sponsors, the executives of the chosen companies and all the students following
the course were present. The event was sponsored by KPMG, HSBC and APS
Bank. The Association of Students of Commercial Studies (ASCS), FEMAís
student organisation, also supported and promoted this event.
