Second Issue of the Malta Medical Journal The second issue of the Malta Medical Journal was published in July 2004.

The editorial in this issue is entitled "Academic Medicine: Can We Afford to Ignore this Ailing Entity?"; while the journal also features a message from the Dean and the Chairman of Dental Surgery. In the light of the current controversy on the proposed legislation on smoking, the editorial board thought it fit to publish a statement of concern on the relationship between health and the economy. Review articles include "The Changing Face of Cancer Therapeutics", "Treating Rheumatoid Arthritis Yesterday and Today", and "A Smile a Day keeps the Lawyers Away!". The scientific papers deal with Drug Resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae, the Management of Congestive Heart Failure, and Gestational Diabetic Pregnancies. The articles also include two clinical case presentations; and a historical paper entitled "The Persona and Deaths of Six 16th Century Grand Masters of the Order of St John".
