University Rector commends Scholarship and Public Service Professor Roger Ellul-Micallef, Rector of the University of Malta, warmly commended the scholarship which University members, such as Professor Henry Frendo, were contributing to the country. Professor Ellul Micallef was speaking during a presentation to him of Professor Frendoís recent work on the British period in Malta: Zmien l-Inglizi: Is-Seklu Dsatax, published by Klabb Kotba Maltin.

In addition, Professor Frendo, who teaches European political development at the University, also presented the Rector with two books on Maltese journalism which he published during the past year. These are Mic-Censura ghall-Pluralizmu: Il-Gurnalizmu fíMalta 1798-2002, published locally by Pin; and The Press and the Media in Malta commissioned and published by the Erich-Brost-Institut fur Journalismus in Europa, Dortmund, Germany.

The Rector noted that while it was obviously important to write monographs, at the same time a general history of modern and contemporary Malta was much needed and indeed very welcome. He augured that, apart from such further publications in Maltese, Professor Frendo would also make available a book on Maltese contemporary history in English.
