United Nations International Meeting on the sustainable development of small island states
Professor Lino Briguglio, director of the Islands and Small States Institute is in Mauritius to attend the United Nations International Meeting on the sustainable development of small island states (10 to 14 January 2005). The meeting, which will be attended by many heads of government and other leaders from most members of the United Nations, will discuss ways in which small island development states can overcome their economic and environmental vulnerability to attain sustainable development goals. Professor Briguglio will form part of the Malta government delegation, which is led by Hon Jeffrey Pullicino Orland. He will also represent the Rector of the University of Malta during the launching of a University Consortium for Small Island developing states. Professor Briguglio is well-known international for the economic vulnerability index which he originally constructed and which will also be discussed in Mauritius.
