Seventh International Summerschool on Engineering Design Research In May 2005, the Department of Manufacturing  Engineering hosted for the first time, the first week of the 7th International Summerschool on Engineering Design Research, organised by the Design Society. The main objectives of this two-week event is to make Ph.D. candidates better qualified and equipped for research on topics related to design science by helping them select a theoretical foundation and develop a research approach, and encouraging discussion and collaboration. The second week of the summerschool will be held later this year in Kaiserslautern, Germany and hosted by Saarland University. The first week was held at the Seminarju tal-Virtu in Rabat. Various engineering design topics were presented by 20 Ph.D. students including knowledge-based systems for collaborative design, requirements management in ship design, systematic design for microsystems, just to mention but a few. On the fourth day the participants were taken to a sightseeing tour in the vicinities of Ghajn Tuffieha where an open-air barbecue was held.
