Short Courses at the University Gozo Centre (May 2005) The University of Malta Gozo Centre will be organising the following short course, commencing in May 2005.

"Art Appreciation"

The course is intended for those who wish to deepen their understanding of works of art, their value as means of self-expression and communication, as well as their role in society.  Using examples from different art forms, it will seek to answer such commonly asked questions as ëhow can we tell whether something is a work of art?', 'are our judgements about works of art subjective or objective?', 'how do artists go about their work?' and 'why do we respond emotionally to works of art?'.

The lectures will be given by Professor Joe Friggieri, head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Malta and Chairman of the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

The course will be spread over 5 weekends, from Friday 27th May to Saturday 25th June 2005. There will be two sessions every weekend: Friday session from 1800 to 2000hrs and Saturday session from 1000 to 1200 hrs. The course fee is Lm25 per person.
