The Protestant Ethic turns One Hundred - Three Special Seminars The seminar series Work in Progress in the Social Studies (WIPSS) celebrates its tenth anniversary with three special seminars in honour of the centenary of Max Weber's influential book, The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism. Special guest speaker will be Ursula Apitzsch, Professor of Sociology at the J.W. Goethe University and Institute for Social Research, Frankfurt. On Thursday 1 December Professor Peter Mayo will give a paper entitled Revisiting Weber's Protestant Ethic - A Critical Exposition (Room 124 Mediterranean Institute behind HSBC Bank on Campus). On Wednesday 7 December Professor Apitzsch will speak to the paper, Protestantism, Ethnicity, and the Spirit of Capitalism (special venue to be announced next Sunday). On Wednesday 14 December Dr. Paul Clough will explore his research, The Muslim Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism (Room 124 Mediterranean Institute). All seminars are 6-8 pm. The public is cordially welcome.
