Seminar on Gender Violence On Wednesday 6th December a Seminar on Gender Violence was organized and chaired by Dr. Ruth Farrugia (Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Laws) at the KSU Common Room with the collaboration of Amnesty International Malta and Ghaqda Student tal-Ligi. This seminar formed part of a credit on Gender and the Law being offered to fifth year law students by Dr Farrugia herself. A power point presentation delivered by Alicia Agius and Dorianne Vella on behalf of the fifth year students, served as an introduction. The discussion that ensued was a stimulating mix of information and debate as to the pertaining situation and effective means to address and change outcomes. Invaluable contributions were made by speakers from the Commission on Domestic Violence, the National Council of Women and civil society representative on the European Economic and Social Affairs Committee, the Malta Confederation of Women's Organisations (MCWO), Appogg and from refuge shelters Dar Merhba Bik, Ghabex and Qalb ta’ Gesu’. Students from varied Faculties but primarily from various stages of the Law course and the Masters Course in Human Rights and Democratisation engaged in a discussion on the reasons for Gender Violence and recommendations for its prevention and eradication.
