Working Together to Safeguard the Environment Ambassador Bordonaro spoke to students from the International Environment Institute and other faculties about safeguarding the environment and raising public awareness on climate change. During her speech she praised former Vice President Al Gore for his service to raise public awareness on climate change through the film "An Inconvenient Truth," and she emphasized the U.S. Government's commitment to address climate change and its efforts to support the development of technologies that limit carbon dioxide emissions.
During the question and answer session with the students, academic staff and the general public, Ambassador Bordonaro spoke about the multilateral efforts of the United States, the European Union and the Asia Pacific Partnership to safeguard the environment. She mentioned several initiatives which have enabled the United States to become one of the leading countries in the world in reducing CO2 emissions, despite strong economic growth and an increasing population. Ambassador Bordonaro also highlighted several multinational partnerships between the U.S. and China, India and other rapidly growing economies. These programs provide state-of-the-art technologies that safeguard the environment while allowing for continued economic growth.
Ambassador Bordonaro appealed to the young future scientists in the audience to design technologies that will protect the increasingly fragile environment and guarantee a healthy world for future generations.
An informal meeting was held afterwards with University of Malta Rector, Prof. Juanito Camilleri, and Pro Rectors Prof. Richard Muscat and Prof. Alfred Vella, as well as Prof. Patrick Schembri, Chairman of the International Environment Institute.
