Faculty of Education 25th Anniversary Book Launch The Aula Magna at the Old University Building in Valletta served as the venue, on Wednesday 21 February, for the launch of the book, Education, Society and Leadership, co-edited by Mary Darmanin and Peter Mayo. The book was produced on the occasion of the Faculty of Education’s 25th Anniversary and is published by Allied Publishers.

Around a hundred people were present for the event which was chaired by the University Rector, Professor Juanito Camilleri. Professor Camilleri spoke about the importance of research in the context of the University and congratulated the Faculty for showcasing a sample of the Faculty’s academic output through this volume. He was followed by the two editors who spoke about the different sections of the book that contains chapters by Faculty members that were originally published in refereed journals. Dr Carmel Borg, Dean of the Faculty, concluded the session with an overview of the Faculty’s achievements over the years and with an indication of where he sees the Faculty heading in the forthcoming years, now that his period of office as Dean is about to expire.

The book contains papers by the following members of the Faculty: Prof. Kenneth Wain, Prof. Ronald Sultana, Dr Mary Darmanin, Dr Carmel Borg, Prof. Peter Mayo, Ms. Cettina Axiaq, Dr Sandro Caruana, Dr Marie Therese Farrugia, Dr Yosanne Vella, Prof. Frank Ventura, Dr Antoinette Camilleri, Dr Grace Grima (together with Dr Anne Smith), Dr Deborah Chetcuti (together with Prof. Morweena Griffiths), Prof. Mark Borg, Prof. Joseph M. Falzon, Dr. Paul Bartolo, Dr Paul Pace, Dr Christopher Bezzina, Dr Joseph Fenech, Prof. Charles J. Farrugia and Dr Vince Cassar. Dr Raphael Vella provided the cover design.

Participants at the event included lecturers from different University faculties, teachers, educational administrators, politicians, students and social activists.
