Evenings on Campus Live Bands Klinsmann

On the 6th July, Evenings on Campus will present this year’s musical "revelation", Klinsmann. This sixteen-year-old newcomer is fresh and spunky; his image and music reminiscent of the Beatles, a mixture of simplicity and lyricism which charms to no small extent. KKU has chosen to give space to this young student full of promise and passion for music.

Klinsmann will perform with his band, live and will sing songs which he composed as well as a large number Beatles songs.

SALT

The second band to perform live is SALT

Salt, a 7-piece rock outfit, goes back roughly three years. The band took off in a big way in Germany in August 2005 where it was invited to play at a youth festival. SALT turned out to be the surprise package of the festival. The band was so successful that those attending flocked to buy an album which had yet to be produced. Upon their return to Malta, armed with copious original material, the band stepped into the recording studio, teaming up with producer Boris Cezek. The end result of their labours came in the form of Hello Truth, a 10-track album which SALT launched at the Castille Wine Vaults on December 13, 2006. The album, which is an eclectic collection of cleverly crafted songs covering a wide spectrum of sounds and styles, has been very well received by the general public as well as those in the local music industry. Suffice to say that the first 3 singles launched by the band, including their latest single, If you do not build, have all made it to the Bay Radio and XFM Top 40, while another song, No life without you, has been played regularly on Magic.

SALT has garnered good experience gigging, both locally and abroad. Apart from the youth festival in Germany, last summer SALT was invited to perform for a whole week in Gibraltar. In Malta, the band has performed live at Luxol, The Alley, Poxx Bar (during Frisk), Bay Street (for the Youth Day opening celebrations), in the World Youth Day celebration concert organised by KDZ as well as in several events commemorating the appointment of the new Archbishop. The band also regularly provides music at youth meetings organized by the Youth Fellowship, a Catholic youth group which band members form part of. SALT has also performed on local television programmes Showtime and str82dpoint.

This year’s Evenings on Campus organised by the Koperattiva Kulturali Universitarja and the University of Malta is being held with the collaboration of KSU, BOV and KPMG, who are the main sponsors.
