After finishing his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Malta, Prof. Borg started working within the generation division at Enemalta Corporation. Given this early exposure to energy generation, which developed his keen interest in the energy sector, he then read for an M.Sc. in Renewable Energy Systems Technologies at the University of Loughborough, UK, where he graduated with Distinction.

After that, following a number of years working as an Energy Analyst with the Malta Resources Authority, Prof. Borg decided to further focus his research interest on the topic of micro-trigeneration (micro-combined, cooling heating and power) and energy-efficiency in residential buildings by reading for a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, UK. Following successful completion of the PhD he started working as a lecturer within the Department of Environmental Design at the University of Malta.

Prof. Borg has published a number of papers on the topic of energy-efficiency in buildings. Topics addressed in his publications include the effect of improving end-use efficiency of domestic appliances in residential buildings, building integrated photovoltaics, climate adaptive facades, ground source heat pumps, energy performance in buildings, policy matters, and the impact of passive design (e.g. building fabric and natural ventilation) on energy use in buildings. He is a proficient user of a number of building software tools, with a special interest in plant-building integration. Other research interests also include electrical demand profiling, performance improvement of HVAC systems, building and plant simulation, zero carbon housing and renewable energy systems.

Prof. Borg is currently a member of staff of the Department of Environmental Design where he is involved in teaching at both under and post graduate level, and is supervisor to student's dissertation at both levels. He is also involved in a number of internationally (EU Horizon2020) and locally funded projects (MCST).
