EDUCATION ACT (CAP. 327)

Bye-Laws of 2005 in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004 for the Diploma in Water Operations Management under the auspices of the Institute of Agriculture

IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 30(5) and 31(6) of the Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of the University of Malta has promulgated the following bye-laws made by the Board of the Institute of Agriculture in virtue of the powers conferred upon it by section 37 (1) of the said Act and which have been approved by the Senate of the University of Malta as required by section 37 (2) of the said Act:

Citation and Interpretation

1. (1) These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws of 2005 in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004 for the Diploma in Water Operations Management under the auspices of the Institute of Agriculture.

(2) In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires -

"the Board" means the Board of the Institute of Agriculture;

"the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies appointed by Senate for the Course on the recommendation of the Board of the Institute of Agriculture;

"the Course" means the programme of studies leading to the Diploma in Water Operations Management; and

"the Diploma" means the Diploma in Water Operations Management.

Applicability

2. These bye-laws shall be applicable to courses starting in February 2004 or later.


Requirements for Admission

3. To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants must satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admission Regulations of the University.

Course Duration

4. The Course shall extend over a period of one year of full-time study or its equivalent in part-time study.

Course Programme

5. (1) The course of studies shall consist of a number of study-units in three areas of study, to which 60 credits shall be assigned, including taught study-units, an industrial placement and a long essay of between 8,000 and 9,000 words.

(2) Students shall be responsible to make their own arrangements regarding where to carry out their industrial placement. Such arrangements shall be approved by the Board of Studies before the commencement of the industrial placement.

(3) Students who fail to satisfy the examiners regarding their performance during the industrial placement shall not be allowed to repeat the industrial placement.

(4) Students who fail to satisfy the Board of Examiners in the long essay may be asked by the Board of Studies to submit a revised version of the long essay within eight weeks from the publication of the results. In such cases, the maximum mark and
grade that may be awarded shall be 45% - grade D.

6. The Board shall publish the Programme of Study for the Diploma at the commencement of each Course. Subject to changes that the Board may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the Programme of Study,

Provided that the Programme of Study is drawn up in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Principal Regulations.

 

Classification of the Award

7. (1) The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in each year of the Course, all credits being weighted equally.

(2) The names of students who qualify for the award of the Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as follows:

Passed with Distinction
Passed.
