EDUCATION ACT (CAP. 327)

Bye-Laws of 2007 in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004 for the Diploma in Rural Entrepreneurship under the auspices of the Institute of Agriculture

IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 74 (5) and 75 (6) of the Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of the University of Malta has promulgated the following bye-laws made by the Board of the Institute of Agriculture in virtue of the powers conferred upon it by section 81 (1) of the said Act and which have been approved by the Senate of the University of Malta as required by section 81 (2) of the said Act:

Citation and Interpretation

1. (1) These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws of 2007 in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004 for the Diploma in Rural Entrepreneurship, under the auspices of Institute of Agriculture.

(2) In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires -

“the Board” means the Board of the Institute of Agriculture;
“the Course” means the course of studies leading to the Diploma in Rural Entrepreneurship; and
“the Diploma” means the Diploma in Rural Entrepreneurship.

Applicability

2. These bye-laws shall apply to courses commencing in October 2007 or later.

Requirements for Admission

3. To be registered as regular students in the Course, applicants must satisfy the general requirements for admission as specified in the Admission Regulations of the University.

Course Duration

4. The Course shall extend over a period of one academic year of full-time study or two academic years of part-time study.

Course Programme

5. (1) The Course shall consist of a number of taught study-units to which 60 credits shall be assigned.

(2) The Board shall draw up a programme of studies indicating which units are compulsory and which are elective and a catalogue of study-units indicating the level, code, title, description and type of each study-unit, the credits assigned to each study-unit, and the methods of teaching and assessment. The Board shall publish the programme of studies and the catalogue prior to the commencement of each Course, following the approval of Senate. Subject to the approval of Senate, the Board may make any necessary changes to the programme of studies and to the catalogue as required.

Classification of the Award

6. (1) The Final Weighted Average Mark for the purpose of the classification of the Diploma shall be based on the results obtained in all the studyunits of the Course, all credits being weighted equally.

(2) The names of students who qualify for the award of the Diploma shall be published in a list in alphabetical order classified as follows:
Pass with Distinction
Pass.
