EDUCATION ACT (CAP. 327) Bye-Laws of 2005 in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004 for the Degree of Bachelor of Documentation Studies (Honours) - B.Doc. (Hons) -under the auspices of the Institute for Conservation and Restoration Studies IN exercise of the powers conferred upon him by sections 30(5) and 31(6) of the Education Act (Cap. 327), the Chancellor of the University of Malta has promulgated the following bye-laws made by the Academic Board of the Institute for Conservation and Restoration Studies in virtue of the powers conferred upon it by section 37 (1) of the said Act and which have been approved by the Senate of the University of Malta as required by section 37 (2) of the said Act:
Citation and Interpretation 1. (1) These bye-laws may be cited as the Bye-Laws of 2005 in terms of the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004 for the degree of Bachelor of Documentation Studies (Honours) - B. Doc. (Hons) - under the auspices of the Institute for Conservation and Restoration Studies.
(2) In these bye-laws, unless the context otherwise requires -
"the Academic Board" means the Academic Board of the Institute for Conservation and Restoration Studies of the Malta Centre for Restoration;
"the Board of Studies" means the Board of Studies for the Course appointed by Senate, on the recommendation of the Academic Board;
"the Course" means the programme of studies leading to the degree of Bachelor of Documentation Studies (Honours) - B. Doc. (Hons);
"the Degree" means the degree of Bachelor of Documentation Studies (Honours) - B. Doc. (Hons); and
"the Principal Regulations" means the General Regulations for University Undergraduate Awards, 2004.
Applicability 2. These bye-laws shall be applicable for courses commencing in October 2003 or later.
Special Course Requirements for Admission
3. As from October 2006, applicants shall be required to be in possession of a pass at Intermediate Level of the Matriculation Certificate Examination in either Physics or Pure Mathematics at Grade C or better.
Selection of Applicants
4. The Academic Board shall recommend to Senate the number of applicants that may be allowed to register for the Course, depending on the availability of resources. The number of available places shall be announced at the time of the call for applications.
5. If there are more eligible applicants than the number of places available, applicants shall be selected through an interview, taking into account the applicants' qualifications and their aptitude to follow the Course.
Course Duration
6. The Course shall extend over a period of three years of full-time study.
Course Programme
7. Students for the Degree shall be required to register and obtain credits for study-units to which a total of 180 credits are assigned as follows:
(a) 160 credits in documentation;
(b) 6 optional credits; and
(c) 14 credits for the dissertation.
8. The Board of Studies shall publish the programme of study for Documentation Studies, drawn up in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Principal Regulations, and approved by Senate, before the beginning of each Course. Subject to changes that the Board of Studies may, with the approval of Senate, be constrained to make, students are bound to follow the study-units and obtain the credits as indicated in the programme of study.
