DESCRIPTION The seminar study-unit will consist of an approximately 30-minute presentation to be given to an audience which includes the Board of Examiners (normally, the Panel of Supervision) that will be normally held within 8 months of the start of the course (i.e. from the date of notification by the University of acceptance to the course).

Before the seminar, the student must submit a 300 word summary of the presentation to the Chairman of the Panel of Supervision.

The presentation shall consist of the student’s appraisal of a subject area related to that of the research project but should not include a discussion of the results of the research work. Students should demonstrate their familiarity with the literature of the subject area. The title of the seminar will be given to the student by the Chairman of the Panel of Supervision following consultation with members of the Panel.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as other persons, will be invited to attend the seminar and there will be a short time for questions at the end of the presentation. The Board of Examiners will examine the presentation on content and delivery.

During the seminar, the student will be examined as follows:
- general knowledge of the theme
- ability to critically assess published literature
- delivery and communication skills
- ability to defend the presentation during the seminar

 
ADDITIONAL NOTES Students are to note that they will be allowed to sit for this study-unit examination and will be awarded a grade only if they have regularly attended lectures and practical classes, if they have submitted any assignments, including practical reports and if they satisfy all other study-unit requirements.
