| DESCRIPTION |
This study-unit provides a number of practical experiments that illustrate basic experimental techniques as well as demonstrating a variety of important concepts in Physics.
Study-unit Aims
The aim of this study-unit is to familiarize the student with basic experimental techniques so as to produce useful outputs from the experiments, and in so doing also understand better the theoretical concepts behind the particular experiments.
Learning Outcomes
1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- follow a set experimental procedure to obtain the desired result; - apply the experimental measurements to the theory and formulae covered elsewhere in the course; - obtain a practical, hands-on insight into the various principles and theories covered by the experiments.
2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- perform basic Physics experiments using the provided laboratory equipment; - take measurements and compute the required results; - calculate the errors inherent in the result; - produce a report in an accepted format detailing the work done and the results achieved. |
