DESCRIPTION The aim of this two-part study-unit is to introduce students to the research process and familiarize them with different methodologies, data collecting tools and conceptual frameworks:

Qualitative method:

The student will:
1. Develop an overall understanding of the issues involved in doing research in this area;
2. Understand in more depth the different methodologies and methods in research including the philosophical assumptions underlying the different methodologies;
3. Learn the skills of doing research in the context of practical problems that students may face in the research field;
4. Become aware of issues of reliability, validity, bias and sampling.

Quantitative Analysis:

Aim: The aim of the study-unit is to introduce students to a basic understanding of quantitative principles in research. The students will be briefed on the rationale of quantitative techniques and on the types of quantitative tests available. A general introduction to descriptive versus inferential statistics shall also be provided.
