DESCRIPTION This study-unit will expose students to key systemic concepts about which they will be asked to deliver a presentation.

To ensure that the fundamental concept in family therapy will be addressed, students will be asked to choose from the following topics:
- Applying Narrative concepts such as “Externalising” and “Exceptions” with a client group of their choice,
- Concepts from Structural Therapy within a Contemporary Context,
- Applying Solution-Focused Therapy such as Scaling questions, and / or Miracle questions within a Short-Term Therapy context,
- Exploring the efficacy of Strategic Ideas,
- The Self of The Therapist,
- Therapeutic Relationship in Systemic Therapy,
- Bridging Psychoanalytic Ideas with Systemic Approaches

Students will also be allowed to suggest other titles not included above, approval of which at the discretion of the tutors.

Study-unit Aims:

- This unit aims to teach students concepts that are fundamental to achieve a basic and solid understanding of systemic therapy;
- This unit aims to teach students research skills and how to work in a team;
- This unit will allow students to develop their presentation technique skills.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Explain and discuss how basic fundamental concepts in family therapy can be applied in a working context;
- Reflect on the processes of working in a team.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Showcase skills around carrying out a detailed research on a topic and apply it into practice. They will have also grasped how to successfully deliver a presentation in a learning and teaching context;
- Work within a team.
