    INTENSIVE ENGLISH
    28 August to 22 September 2006

    A four-week Intensive English Language Course is held in August and September.  This is intended mainly for overseas students before joining the University in October.  The University of Malta has a long history of teaching the English Language - indeed it is unique in being the only national University in the Mediterranean where English is the language of instruction.  Both English and Maltese are official languages in Malta, and most people are fluent in both languages.  Our English Language Courses make full use of the University's expertise in this area, drawing on faculty members trained both in Malta and Britain.  Malta's historical and present connections with the English-speaking world, its rich cultural heritage and wonderful climate make the Maltese Islands one of the most popular destinations for English Language Courses.

    This course is designed for adults who wish to improve their ability to communicate in English at intermediate or advanced levels.

    The programme concentrates on:

    • grammar practice activities in a communicative method;
    • vocabulary building;
    • pronunciation work;
    • the key skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing.

The tutors are all very well qualified, and are members of the University lecturing staff.

The course is suitable for participants who wish to:

    • use the English language in realistic situations;
    • develop confidence in using English;
    • improve their overall ability to communicate in English.

    Participants may request to be prepared for the following exams:

    • IELTS examinations [International English Language Testing Systems]. It is possible to sit for these tests in Malta after the Course (23 September).
