Professional Ethics Programme

  1. A Professional Ethics Programme is being set up within the Faculty of Theology as a joint initiative between the Department of Moral Theology and the Department of Philosophy in accordance with the relevant University guidelines.

  2. The aims of the Programme are the following :
    1. to promote the study of professional ethics at the University and outside as an integral component of professional practice
    2. to offer study-units in cooperation with Faculties, Institutes and Centres in the teaching of professional ethics at the University, including supervision of dissertations in the area of professional ethics and related areas
    3. to collaborate with local and foreign centres, programmes and individuals working in professional ethics for research purposes
    4. to offer ethical advisory services, including ethical assessment reports, and to raise public awareness of issues related to professional ethics.

  3. The Programme shall have the following structure:
    1. A coordinator and a Board appointed by the Board of the Faculty of Theology.
    2. The coordinator shall be a member of either the Department of Moral Theology or the Department of Philosophy.
    3. The Board shall consist of the coordinator, as chairman, and four other members of whom two at least should be ethicists working at the University and one member whose primary interest is in a scientific area.      
    4. The appointment of the coordinator and members of the Board shall be for four years and can be renewed.

  4. The Programme will operate as an autonomous cost centre, subject to the University’s financial regulations.

  5. The Programme will have its own logo and letterhead.

 

The Faculty of Theology offers a Masters of Arts in Bioethics
