CODE FDT5401

TITLE Faith and Culture Seminar

UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

MQF LEVEL 7

ECTS CREDITS 4

DEPARTMENT Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology, including Ecumenism

DESCRIPTION The intersection of faith and culture is a constant and ongoing event. This seminar seeks to engage students to think in a theological and a credible way about issues like the place of religion in the public square. To relate to the culture, students need to study and understand it. Moreover, they are encouraged to engage the secular culture in a positive way. In such manner, they can understand the state of culture and of the church at the dawn of the twenty-first century. The study-unit leads students to enter in discussion based on selected texts as well as it exposes them to various experts in respective and related fields.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to:

- help students understand the world as it exists today;
- help them prepare for their engagement with the world in which they live;
- identify areas where people must be engaging today's culture;
- caution students against retreating into some sort of ghettoization which leaves the world without religious influence and witness;
- caution against abandoning the specifically religious perspective on life so that one becomes conformed to the world.
