DESCRIPTION The purpose of the dissertation for the attainment of the Masters in Matrimonial Canon Law and Jurisprudence is to develop students’ understanding of, and capacity to critically appraise and apply research skills and methods in one’s critical appraisal of a canonical aspect related to marriage and procedural praxis. The study-unit seeks to furnish students with the skills necessary to conduct their own academic research and to practically apply their acquired knowledge in the forensic field.

Study-unit Aims:

The overall aim of the dissertation is to allow students to extend their understanding of canonical matrimonial doctrine, case law and procedural praxis by pursuing an independent research project on a chosen topic.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
i. read and understand research papers;
ii. sustain an in-depth critical analysis.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
i. critically analyse the subject matter under study and write on related issues;
ii. continue their own research for further specialization and personal formation.

 
ADDITIONAL NOTES **September Assessment Session: Students who fail to obtain an overall pass mark will be re-examined in the Dissertation. However, the resit availability for the Oral Examination is at the discretion of the Board of Examiners.
