| DESCRIPTION | The Psalms are among the most popular books of the Old Testament and yet they remain difficult to understand and appreciate because they come from a very different world. The study-unit aims at offering a general introduction to the study of the Psalms by studying the history, structure and purpose of the collection, and the origin and classification of the psalms. A basic knowledge of the techniques of classical Hebrew poetry will help us appreciate the literary form of the psalms, a few of which will be studied in detail. READING LIST • R.
