DESCRIPTION This study-unit seeks to assist students in the final year of the course in their quest to reach a comprehensive and integrated approach to Dogmatic theology. Drawing on scripture and tradition for the data of revelation, students will be able to examine and present coherently the major Christian doctrines. The inter-relationship existing among the various spheres of Dogmatic theology is highlighted, especially through an insightful reading of a number of theological texts.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of dogmatic theology and to see the interrelationships that exist between its different parts.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Identify and outline the basic principles that guide the Church in its actions as a community and as a body of individual believers;
- Possess a measure of understanding of Sacred Scripture as God’s revelation throughout the history of the Jewish people in the Old Testament right up to the culmination of revelation in Jesus Christ;
- Understand the relationship between philosophical and theological reflection, spiritual growth, and witnessing to faith;
- Examine Christian beliefs about the Trinitarian God, the Incarnation, and the History of Salvation;
- Explore the revelation inherent in the Christian religion;
- Investigate the interplay between faith, reason and revelation.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Communicate and adapt the Christian message according to the context;
- Communicate theologically-based responses on the Bible and the Teachings of the Church;
- Respond to basic queries related to faith and belief;
- Acknowledge the richness and diversity in Catholic teachings and Tradition.
