The Maltese Medical School holds a number of medical certificates awarded to various personalities throughout the 18th-20th century.

• An 18th century Apothecary Certificate awarded to Josephus Stivala
• Authorisation certificates for Dr Giovanni Andreotti dated 1786 and 1793. Giovanni Andreotti was appointed to the post of Surgeon at the Sacra Infermeria on the 17th July 1786. On the 20th December 1793, the Grand Ospitaliere gave his approval to allow Andreotti to leave his employment for six months to enter in the service of the Prior of Catalonia, who sent the surgeon to further his studies in anatomy and surgery. Andreotti was appointed to the post of lecturer in anatomy and surgery in 1794 through the foundation set up by the Prior of Catalona. Andreotti continued to work in the Civil Hospital as a 2nd Class Assistant Surgeon in the early 19th century retiring on the 1st April 1819. He continued to receive a pension from the Civil Government until 1838, presumable until his death. He received a Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Malta on the 27th March 1824. [Ref. • An 18th century certificate awarded to Joannem Cauchi dated 1792
• A 19th century certificate awarded to Josepho Dimech dated 1833
• A 19th century certificate awarded to Loreto Bonavita dated 1839. Medical Doctorate awarded on the 19th July 1839 [Ref. University Archives]
• Honoris causa Medical Doctorate certificate awarded to Prof Victor Vassallo dated 1964. Victor Vassallo was born in Valletta, Malta 27/04/1902, died in Malta 22/10/1971; Education: Flores College, Malta 1910-1918; University of Naples 1919-1926; Bethlem, Maudsley and National Hospitals (U.K.). Qualifications: M.D. [Naples, 1926]; D.P.M. [Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons, London, 1930]; M.D. hon. [University of Malta, 1964]. Career: 1930-1932 Clinical Assistant at Maudsley Hospital and Tavistock Clinic, London; 1932-1937 Resident Physician and 1937-1962 Medical Superintendent, Mental Hospital, Malta; 1932-1962 Professor of Psychiatry and 1962 Professor Emeritus, University of Malta; 1945 offered post of Chief Government Medical Officer but turned down offer. Achievements: Published a number of monographs and articles relating to psychiatry. Acted as Vice-President of the International Congress on Mental Health (London, 1948); elected Dean to the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, University of Malta and served on both Senate and Council of the University; elected Member of the Malta Medical Council and after 1962 served as President to the Medical Officers Union. Member also of a number of international associations. Awarded O.B.E. (1943) and Coronation Medals (1937, 1943). Also awarded an Honorary M.D. from the University of Malta (1964).
