Strategic Implementation Fora

Series of Meetings from February to March 2022

Welcome to a series of 8 University Strategic Implementation Fora, which will occur between February and May this year. Each forum is dedicated to one of the University's Strategic Themes, showcasing examples of successful implementation across University entities and sharing knowledge through working groups.

A quick recap on how the University developed the Strategic Plan for 2020-2025. Students, staff, and stakeholders developed the plan through a widespread consultative process of conferences, fora, working groups, surveys, and meetings from September 2018 to July 2019. The University owes gratitude to all the internal and external stakeholders who, like you today, have devoted their time, expertise and effort.

The Strategic Plan provides a roadmap to achieve goals, deliver value, and succeed as a critical stakeholder in Malta’s education sector. In the implementation process, the University is engaging in an intensive exercise that turns strategic objectives into actions to achieve its vision and mission.

We proudly witness the growth of a ‘culture of implementation’ throughout our 115 faculty departments, 34 institutes centres and 11 administrative directorates. This is no mean feat as implementation requires the motivation and mobilisation of 3,180 full-time and part-time staff to elements of the strategy and translate them into actions at different levels. In the presentations we are about to hear, we will be sharing valuable examples of activities across the University that reflect the objectives of the Strategic Plan.

I would like to provide another quick recap of the University's 8 Strategic Themes: learning and teaching, research and knowledge transfer, societal factors and impact, enterprise and industry impact, national impact, international outlook, sustainability, services and administrative support. These priority areas will guide academic, administrative, technical and industrial staff in aligning daily activities with decision-making and the allocation of resources. As members of the University community, we must endeavour to implement improvements and new initiatives, be accountable for our respective part of the plan, and be committed to the institution's development as a whole. We must make achievement and continuous advancement an inherent part of our daily work activities to collectively achieve the educational goals that bind us together at the University of Malta.
