The University of Malta Library together with its satellite libraries and depositories comprises nearly a million monographs, a vast range of electronic resources and services, extensive runs of journal literature, and prestigious legacy collections of archival and rare book material.

It is the centre for information retrieval and supports the teaching and research programmes of the University through services which include excellent reference facilities, library and information literacy instruction, bibliographical consultancy, online compilations of bibliographical guides, overseas document supply. The recently upgraded web portal—HyDi—can search across online and print resources simultaneously. The Main Library provides over 400 study spaces with a mixture of traditional study desks, informal seating and IT facilities for student use. Silent and group study areas are available.

Users can also access the University of Malta Institutional Repository OAR@UoM. It is an online archive that collects, preserves and disseminates the intellectual output of the University. Subsequently, it is a vital tool for scholarly communication and preservation of knowledge.

OAR@UoM serves as a platform whereby authors and researchers can upload their research in open access, which research could be easily identified and accessed by scholars within academia as well as the general public at large. The main benefit of this Institutional Repository is that it will increase the visibility of the research which is being carried out at the University of Malta and will also serve as a dissemination tool. OAR@UoM is integrated with the Library’s portal HyDi and accessible via the Library website.
