CERTIFICATE/DIPLOMA IN GERMAN

Part-Time Evening Course

This part-time evening course is specifically designed for members of the general public who use or would like to use German in their professional life. Since the German and Maltese economies are strongly linked and the German language is increasingly important within the EU, the Department of German offers this opportunity for those seeking to improve their language skills and cultural understanding of the German-speaking countries. The course focuses on general and business communication as well as more specialised topics, tailored to the students’ needs.

 

Certificate in German (MQF level 5, starting in October 2019)

The one-year Certificate in German (30 ECTS) covers areas such as language use in tourism and business, applying for a job and intercultural communication. The course starts from level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (for more information on the language levels click here).

Duration: 2 semesters

Entry requirements: General requirements for admission to the University; and a basic level of A1 (CEFR) in German.

The Certificate as well as the Diploma course form part of the 'Get Qualified' Scheme offered by Malta Enterprise. Upon successful completion, eligible students will benefit from a tax credit of up to 70% of the course fees, thus recovering most of the costs incurred. For more information please click here.

Diploma in German (MQF level 5, starting in October 2020)

The Diploma course starts from level B1 (CEFR), is designed to deepen participants’ language skills and covers specialised areas, such as German language use in technology, the health sector and law.

Duration: 2 semesters

Entry requirements: General requirements for admission to the University; candidates can apply directly for the 'Diploma in German' part (one year, starting in October 2018), or they can start with the 'Certificate in German' (one year, starting again in October 2019, see below). To immediately start with the Diploma, applicants need to have either obtained the 'Certificate in German' or prove an intermediate level of B1 (CEFR) in German.
