| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is suitable for students who have completed the study-unit Chinese Language 1, or who have the equivalent knowledge of this latter study-unit. It is designed to reinforce and further develop language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing as it relates to everyday life situations. More Chinese characters and vocabulary, further knowledge of sentence structures, grammar and Chinese customs related to the course content will be introduced. Learners will also develop essential skills in using Chinese and be ready to go on to the next level. Study-Unit Aims: - To consolidate the knowledge of with the Chinese phonetic system (initials, finals and tones) with satisfactory pronunciation; - To provide students with the practical knowledge and skills to recognise and reproduce more Chinese character; - To introduce more basic Chinese grammar and sentence structures; - To enable students to understand modern Chinese related to topics familiar to them; - To provide students with the essential skills to read and comprehend very short passages in elementary Chinese. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Recognize and write 200 more Chinese characters, so that at least a total of 400 Chinese characters will have been learnt; - Develop a vocabulary of at least 200 words and frequently used phrases; - Master further basic Chinese grammar and sentence structures; - Understand simple Chinese etiquette and customs related to the course content. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Make a close reading of texts; - Develop a greater attention to detail; - Learn to dialogue better; - Appreciate better other cultures.
