DESCRIPTION Le premier titre se composant de deux unités de valeur fait suite à l’unité d’enseignement sur la grammaire structurale. Il fait réfléchir les étudiants sur les problèmes posés par l’engendrement des phrases en français. On s’intéressera également à la façon dont une phrase du français passe de sa structure profonde à sa structure de surface. On fera également une large place aux phrases ambiguës.

Une étude de l’énonciation suivra celle de l’énoncé (2e titre). En effet, on exploitera le fonctionnement externe de la langue en mettant l’accent sur l’appareil formel de l’énonciation : forces illocutoire, perlocutoire et locutoire, modalités d’énoncé, de message, d’énonciation, logiques, modalisation, théorie de l’action.

Le 3e titre visera à appliquer les différentes théories provenant du champ des sciences du langage, étudiées notamment dans les deux premières parties, sur des objets littéraires (et paralittéraires). Les domaines privilégiés seront principalement les théories de l'énonciation et du discours, dans une moindre mesure, la sémiotique et la narratologie.

The first title in caption which is made up of two-study-units follow the study-units which both deal with structural linguistics. It encourages the student to reflect on the problems which deal with generating of French sentences. Students also learn how a French sentence passes from its deep structure to its surface structure. A wide study will also be made with regard to ambiguous sentences.

In the second part, a pragmatic study will be made on utterance. In fact, it will also deal with how the French language is used in society, thus putting an emphasis on its formal use in pragmatics: illocutary, perlocutary and locutary forms as well as modal sentences, messages, those used in pragmatics, in logics, modalisation, theory of action.

The third part will apply theories coming from the field of linguistics to the literary and paraliterary text. The main domains of investigation will be the theories of utterance and discourse, semiotics and narratology.

Study-unit Aims:

The Study-unit aims is to prepare students for teaching French as a foreign language and/ or to translation and/ or interpretation. Additionaly, at the end of the study-unit, students will have the necessary knowledge to apply theoritical frameworks to literary and paraliterary texts.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

- In the first part, the learner gets to know that ten years after the European and the American Structuralist movement, there was another school of thought; (Generative Grammar) originating from MIT in the U.S.. It originated from the preceeding one but afterwards it took a completely different route. This thought was introduced in France a few years later;
- The second part deals with a completely different grammar: the grammar of pragmatics and discourse analyses. This allows the learner to get a sound insight of how different speakers use the same items of a language to convey different messages;
- The third part is an application of enunciation and discourses analyses to literary texts.

2. Skills:

- In the first part the learner can easily deal with ambiguous sentences, a skill which is impossible to acquire without knowing a grammar of this kind;
- In the second part the learner comes to realize that a text or discourse is not a sum of sentences put together is governed by coherence and cohesion;
- In the third part the learner will transfer linguistics and pragamtic skills to a practical analyses of concrete works of literature and paraliterature.
