DESCRIPTION The aim of this study is two-fold: firstly, students will learn how to master computer tools in order to undertake a bibliographical research in conformity with typographical norms, especially as far quotations, foot-notes, the table of contents and the index are concerned. It will enhance what the students already know regarding the presentation of their long essay. Secondly, it will provide students with the functional tools they require to pursue a particular research work and to look for the necessary documentation (data bases, dictionaries and on-line libraries).

Study-unit Aims:

The aims of this study-unit are:
- To use computer tools in order to make a bibliographic research that complies with typographical norms (quote, footnote, table of content, index);
- To give students functional tools to pursue an academic research in French with the help of the Internet (databases, online libraries, dictionaries and encyclopaedias).

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to apply French academic typographical norms using a word processor and to conduct an academic research using databases and online tools with a computer.

2. Skills

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to improve his/her computer skills in the perspective of academic research. He/she will be proficient using information technologies for scholarly research and will be able to make a fast, efficient and selective survey of the literature available in French on a given academic subject. Those skills improve the ability to write a paper of a scholarly nature.
