TITLE La sintassi dell'italiano 1

LEVEL 02 - Years 2, 3 in Modular Undergraduate Course



DESCRIPTION The objective of this study-unit is to introduce students to an in-depth analysis of the syntax of the Italian language. Starting with a definition and an overview of this field of study, the study-unit will then go on to discuss syntax as a set of principles governing the arrangement of words in a sentence. During the first semester, the study-unit will focus on multiclause complex sentences by analysing the way they are organized. The study-unit will explain the importance of syntactic competence in the expression of thought. The study-unit will also aim to consolidate the lexical skills of students. Multimedia will be used as a tool to harmonize theoretical discussion and analysis of contemporary Italian texts.

Study-unit Aims:

The objective of this study-unit is to introduce students to the syntax of Italian, providing them with the necessary tools to develop their syntactic competence. It will help students to get a better understanding of written and spoken Italian.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- describe the syntactic structures of Italian;
- understand principles governing the structure of multiclause complex sentences;
- identify the tools needed to organize words into sentences.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- analyse texts using syntactic tools;
- develop a critical awareness of the syntactic elements during the writing process;
- produce linguistically polished texts;
- improve spoken fluency.

ADDITIONAL NOTES Pre-requisite Qualifications: At least an intermediate level in Italian or permission from lecturer holding the study-unit.
