DESCRIPTION This study-unit introduces students to conversational medical Maltese focusing on the areas of basic anatomical terminology, doctor/patient communication, interpreting symptoms, interacting in a medical Maltese setting. Throughout the study-unit, students will have the opportunity to extend their communication skills with the use of case studies, role-play and following medical conversations.

Study-unit Aims:

The aim of the study-unit is to enable students to communicate verbally in Maltese in a healthcare setting.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Converse using basic healthcare vocabulary in a medical setting;
- Understand patients' medical history and symptoms.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to acquire a fair command of elementary Maltese, be familiar with basic medical vocabulary, and be able to apply these skills with patients and medical colleagues.

In addition to the above, students will also be assigned notes and readings which will be made available throughout the study-unit.
