| DESCRIPTION | History of Philosophy I (Ancient) Content: A critical study of the history of ancient philosophy, from Thales to Plotinus. Reading List: - Barnes, J., Early Greek Philosophy, Penguin, London, 1987 - Friggieri, J., In-Nisga tal-Hsieb, Media Centre, Malta, 2000 - Irwin, T., Classical Thought, OUP, Oxford, 1989 History of Philosophy II (Medieval) Objectives: The study-unit aims to help students acquire a basic knowledge of the development of western thought during the MiddleAges. The introductory lectures set out the peculiar features, the different phases, the main topics and currents of Medieval Philosophy, and describe briefly the more important historical events bearing on it. The rest of the course is dedicated to a detailed discussion of some aspects of the major thinkers' philosophical contributions. The topics discussed are necessarily limited in number and may vary from year to year.
