•    Traditional building materials, in particular the local building stone Globigerina  
      Limestone
     o    geochemical and mineralogical characterization
     o    physical properties
     o    development of a simple methodology for the recognition of fresh soll (bad)   
           stone.

•    Deterioration of Globigerina Limestone
     o    the effects of airborne pollution
     o    damage caused by marine spray
     o    salt transport within materials
     o    salt damage

•    Traditional and modern conservation methods,
     o    chemical salt inhibitors
     o    surface treatments to limit salt damage in building materials

•    Composition and properties of traditional and modern lime-based mortars
     o    historic mortars
     o    conservation mortars

Conservation education

•    Curricular development for:
     o    education of professional conservator/restorers
     o    specialisation of architects/civil engineers in building conservation
     o    continuing professional development (CPD) in conservation
