Political Parties June 2017 General Election

The Centre for Labour Studies (CLS) is a clearing house for independent and critical thinking on issues relating to work and working life, operating at the University of Malta since 1981. As it has consistently done in the past, the CLS is making an appeal to the political parties contesting this general election to take note of the views being presented. The proposals being made in this memorandum are aimed at making the employment and industrial relations scenario in Malta amenable to the exigencies of a modern state in the 21st century.

Family-friendly measures

The seminar 'What can unions do to close the differences between workers’ right for FFM in the Public and Private Sector?' was held in October 2016. H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, President of Malta, during the opening of the seminar emphasised that in nowadays reality there should be working policies that seek the balance between family and work. Maltese unions met to discuss the differences between the rights enjoyed by Public Sector employees, and those working in the Private Sector when talking about Family Friendly Measures. The respective unions highlighted the best practices from the private sector that have already been adopted.
